Mike Bottinelli – Concentration
What is the central idea of your concentration?
For my 2-D Design portfolio I used my digital camera and went around New York City in search of my theme of how time and weather affects man-made structures and buildings. As I carefully looked for my imagery, I found beauty in the way a variety of textures, patterns, and colors that peeling paint, rust, and time have on these structures. What seems ugly at first eventually becomes artistically beautiful through my camera lens in the way I shoot detail and focus on those areas of my concentration.
How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea? You may refer to specific images as examples. When referencing specific images, please indicate the image number.
In image #1, I found graffiti to create designs and the spray paint unified the pattern of the bricks, fence, and metal rods. In images #3 and #4, I shot the same scene except I used my camera to create the work through focusing on the metal hole initially, and then, blurring the hole to see beyond. Images #11 and #12 also are similar compositionally with the way the shapes break up the page.
